インタネットというと、TCP/IP, RFCに代表されるかもしれない。
インタネットが、IEEE 802 で物理層、データリンク層(MAC副層、LLC副層)がきちんとしていたから、その上がだいたいで良かったかもしれない。MAC Addressを製造組織ごとに登録し、相互接続の確認に役立っている。
Mac Addressの汎用性をソフトウェアで実現する方法にSoftEtherがある。
