GhostscriptがCLIから実行できない

問題点

ec2イスタンス上で使用できるフォント一覧を確認する際に
ghostscriptで確認しようとしたらこんなエラーが出てgsの起動に失敗した

$ gs
GPL Ghostscript 8.70 (2009-07-31)
Copyright (C) 2009 Artifex Software, Inc.  All rights reserved.

GPL Ghostscript 8.70: Cannot open X display `(null)'.
**** Unable to open the initial device, quitting.

対処

-sDEVICE=png256 のオプション追記で実行できた

$ gs -sDEVICE=png256
GPL Ghostscript 8.70 (2009-07-31)
Copyright (C) 2009 Artifex Software, Inc.  All rights reserved.
This software comes with NO WARRANTY: see the file PUBLIC for details.
GS> (*) { == } 256 string /Font resourceforall
