4 Checks for a Pending or Failed XMR Swap

If your Monero swap is pending or failed, first find which chain has the unfinished step; its status tells you whether to wait, check wallet sync, or investigate the destination. The XMR bridge route crosses two separate networks, so each can show different progress. These four checks help you choose the next step without sending again too soon.

1. Which chain has the unfinished step?

Start with the wallet and network that sent the funds. A swap from Monero begins with an XMR transaction; a swap to Monero begins with a transaction on the other blockchain. The receiving wallet can stay empty until the sending chain confirms its payment and the swap service processes it.

For an XMR bridge, think of it as a handoff: your wallet broadcasts a payment, Monero miners record it in a block, and the service then sends the other asset. A “confirmation” means a block has recorded the transaction. The destination transfer is a separate transaction, so its status may change later.

2. Does “pending” mean wait or investigate?

On Monero, “pending” usually means the wallet has sent the transaction, but it has not yet appeared in a mined block. Monero aims for a block about every two minutes, but the first confirmation can take longer. Many wallets wait for about 10 confirmations before treating received XMR as unlocked to spend, which often takes around 20 minutes after the first block.

Check that the wallet is fully synchronized, meaning it has caught up with the blockchain. Then look for a transaction ID, the unique reference for that payment. If the ID exists and the wallet shows zero confirmations, wait and check again; do not create a second swap just because the receiving wallet is still empty.

If you sent a token from MetaMask, check that chain’s transaction status instead. Its native coin pays the network fee, and a low fee can leave a transaction waiting. If it has no confirmation, the swap service may not yet have received the payment. If it confirms but the destination stays empty, save the transaction ID and check the swap’s status before taking another action.

3. What does “failed” actually tell you?

A wallet’s “failed” label can mean different things. Monero’s official guide uses “Sent (Failed)” for a transaction that was not sent to the network; a pending send is one that was sent but is still waiting for confirmation. Check the transaction details and confirm the wallet is synchronized before deciding the payment failed.

A common mistake is retrying while the first transaction is merely pending. If the original later confirms, you may have paid twice. If the wallet says it never sent the transaction and there is no transaction ID, check that the balance is unlocked and the fee is accepted, then make one new attempt.

4. What should you do if the chains disagree?

If the sending transaction is confirmed but the receiving wallet has nothing, keep the sending transaction ID, the destination address, and the time sent. Check that the address belongs to the right network and wallet. Then use the swap service’s available status or support route with those details; never share your seed phrase, which controls your wallet.

If you are swapping into Monero, the destination wallet may need to scan the blockchain before it displays an incoming payment. Feather Wallet and Cake Wallet are Monero wallets; MetaMask handles many other networks, not Monero itself. Check the receiving wallet’s network and sync status before treating a delay as a lost payment. An XMR bridge can complete only after the relevant transactions are accepted on their respective chains.
