A Pending Solana Swap: When to Retry

Posted at

A pending Solana swap has been sent or signed, but the network has not confirmed whether it ran. The app may time out while the transaction can still land, so a second swap could make you buy twice. Check the transaction signature before submitting again.

What does “pending” mean?

Pending means the app has not shown a final result; it does not prove the swap failed. A transaction is a signed request to change your wallet balances, and Solana can take roughly 60–90 seconds to stop accepting it if it never lands.

If you are using Byreal, keep the same wallet connected while you check how Byreal handles swaps and markets, because switching wallets can hide the signature you need. A common mistake is pressing Swap again when the screen appears frozen. Wait first: the original request might still complete.

How do I check before retrying?

Use the transaction signature, a long string of letters and numbers, to look up the request in a Solana block explorer. The signature may appear in your wallet’s activity or the app’s transaction details.

  1. Open the wallet or app activity and copy the signature for the pending swap.
  2. Search that signature in a Solana block explorer, such as Solscan.
  3. Read the status: “Success” means the swap ran; “Failed” means it did not.
  4. If no result appears, wait about 90 seconds, refresh the search, and check again before retrying.

A blank search is not proof of failure: the explorer may be behind, or the request may still be able to land. If it shows success but the app still says pending, refresh the app or reconnect the wallet. Check your balances before starting another swap.

What should I do if it failed?

A confirmed failure means the swap’s token changes were rolled back, but Solana still charges a network fee. The base fee is 5,000 lamports per signature (0.000005 SOL); a variable priority fee may also apply.

Read the error before trying again. For a Byreal swap, the cause may be a price move beyond your allowed slippage—the price change you accept—or too little SOL left to cover fees.

  • Slippage: Refresh the quote or reduce the swap size. Raise your limit only if you accept a less favorable price.
  • Low SOL: Leave enough SOL in the wallet for the transaction fee.
  • Expired request: Start again with a fresh quote and sign the new transaction once.

If I were in your place, I would check the signature and wallet balances before touching Swap again. I would retry only after the first request shows as failed or has clearly expired.
