Why Do Solana LP Fees Change Your Token Mix?

Solana LP fees can change your overall token mix because swaps generate fees in the tokens traders pay, while your position’s principal follows the pool price. In a concentrated-liquidity pool, those fees accrue separately from principal: claiming them moves assets to your wallet, but does not rebalance or enlarge the position.

For the wallet-level steps, see how to swap and add liquidity with Byreal; this article focuses on what fee collection does to your exposure. Byreal is a Solana service for swapping tokens and providing liquidity. The key distinction is between the pool’s changing principal and the separate fee balance you can claim.

How do fees accrue in a concentrated-liquidity position?

A position earns fees only while the pool price is inside its chosen range and its liquidity is active. Each swap pays a pool fee, usually calculated as a fraction of the input amount; the pool’s fee tier sets that rate, and any protocol or fund allocation may be deducted before the LP share is credited.

On-chain accounting tracks fee growth per unit of liquidity. A position records fee-growth checkpoints for each token; when the position is updated, the increase in fee growth inside its lower and upper ticks is multiplied by its liquidity to calculate fees owed. The result is two balances, one for each token, rather than a single dollar-denominated reward.

Fee denomination follows swap flow. If traders mostly send USDC into a SOL/USDC pool to buy SOL, the LP fee balance may accumulate more USDC; swaps in the other direction can accrue fees in SOL. That flow can diverge from your principal mix, which is set by price and range. Outside the range, the position generally earns no swap fees until price returns.

Does collecting fees rebalance the position?

No: collecting transfers the owed tokens out, but leaves the position’s liquidity and principal composition unchanged. Think of the position as a shop’s inventory and accrued fees as cash in a separate till. Emptying the till changes what you hold overall, not the stock on the shelves.

For example, suppose a position’s principal is worth about $1,000 and its unclaimed fees are 30 USDC plus 0.02 SOL. At an illustrative SOL price of $150, the fees add $33 of value, but their mix is roughly 91% USDC and 9% SOL. If you claim them, your wallet holds those amounts and the position remains as it was; your combined exposure is now more USDC-heavy than the principal alone.

To compound, you must put assets back to work. A concentrated position may require a particular token ratio at the current price and chosen range. If your fees do not match it, you can leave the excess in your wallet or swap part of one token into the other, paying swap costs and accepting price impact. Adding liquidity with mismatched amounts can leave some tokens unused.

When is collection or compounding worth the cost?

Compare the value of fees with the costs of claiming and redeploying them. Each claim takes a Solana transaction and therefore incurs a network fee; compounding can add a swap and another liquidity action. Network costs are usually small relative to large positions, but frequent claims can consume a meaningful share of small fee balances. Priority fees may rise when transaction demand is high.

Two edge cases matter: a price move outside your range stops new fee accrual, though already owed fees remain claimable; and token transfer-fee rules can make the amount received differ from the gross fee balance. Also, claimable amounts may include small rounding dust, so acting on every tiny increment can cost more than waiting.

In practice, collect when the fees are material relative to transaction and rebalance costs, then decide whether the resulting token mix fits your target exposure. Treat claimed fees as a portfolio choice: hold the mix, swap toward a target, or redeposit where the position’s price range can use it.
