データベースに登録する時の電話番号の型は数値がいいのか？
についてですが
電話番号はハイフンの位置なども含まれる場合があるので文字列型のほうが良い。
国際電話番号(＋81等)の管理をする場合にも同様です。
ですので、文字列でvarchar(0～255)が良いと思われる。
