Installing Displaylink Device Driver on RHEL8

Displaylink (ThinkPad Dock series) driver install

  • Adding epel repository
$ sudo dnf install https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-8.noarch.rpm -y
  • Download Displaylink driver from github
    https://github.com/displaylink-rpm/displaylink-rpm/releases

  • Install Displaylink Driver in CUI mode
    Before installing the driver you should make sure following points

    • Disable secureboot in BIOS setup
    • You must install the driver in CUI mode. If you install in GUI mode, machine might be hung.
$ sudo dnf centos-stream-stream8-displaylink-1.13.1-2.x86_64.rpm

If you want to change GUI(runlevel 5) to CUI(runlevel 3)

# init 3

After the install, you can back to GUI

# init 5

Note:
SecureBoot must be disabled. If it is enabled, displaylink does not work.
