ほとんど無意識かもしれないが、brew upgrade みたいなことをやってしまっていたらしい。
久々にmacのpostgresを起動しようとしたら、
postgres -D /usr/local/var/postgres
LOG: skipping missing configuration file "/usr/local/var/postgres/postgresql.auto.conf"
FATAL: database files are incompatible with server
DETAIL: The data directory was initialized by PostgreSQL version 9.3, which is not compatible with this version 9.4.1.
とかいうエラーが出て起動しない。
ということで対応した記録。
cd /usr/local/var/
initdb -E utf8 postgres941 -U postgres

WARNING: enabling "trust" authentication for local connections
You can change this by editing pg_hba.conf or using the option -A, or
--auth-local and --auth-host, the next time you run initdb.
Success. You can now start the database server using:
postgres -D postgres941
or
pg_ctl -D postgres941 -l logfile start
続いて、pg_upgrade に挑戦。
pg_upgrade -d postgres -D postgres941 -b /usr/local/Cellar/postgresql/9.3.4/bin/ -B /usr/local/Cellar/postgresql/9.4.1/bin/ -U postgres

Upgrade Complete
----------------
Optimizer statistics are not transferred by pg_upgrade so,
once you start the new server, consider running:
analyze_new_cluster.sh
Running this script will delete the old cluster's data files:
delete_old_cluster.sh
以下で起動。
postgres -D postgres941
