How to Move Collateral Before a Manta Refinance

Posted at

Bridge extra collateral to Manta Pacific before refinancing there. If a lending position on Manta Pacific needs more collateral, move the asset from Ethereum first, then supply it to the lending market before changing the loan. The bridge moves tokens; it does not move the debt or refinance the position.

What does repositioning collateral involve?

It means getting an accepted asset onto the chain where your borrowing position lives, then adding it to that position. For example, if you have 1 ETH backing a loan on Manta Pacific and another 0.2 ETH on Ethereum, you could bridge the extra ETH and supply it to the same lending market.

That could improve your borrowing terms or give you room to refinance, depending on the market’s rules. A collateral factor is the share of an asset’s value a lender lets you borrow against; each lending market sets its own factor.

How do you prepare and move the asset?

Follow these steps before refinancing, so you know what needs to arrive and where it must go.

  1. Check the position. Note its debt, collateral, and the amount you want to change. Set a target for the new loan, including enough collateral for price changes.
  2. Confirm the asset will work. Check that the Manta Pacific lending market accepts the token you plan to bridge. A token with a similar name may be a different version, and the market may not accept it.
  3. Compare bridge routes. The Manta bridge is one way to move supported assets from Ethereum to Manta Pacific. Compare the amount expected to arrive, settlement time, and bridge design. Ethereum.org explains that bridges use different methods, including locking assets or swapping through liquidity providers.

For more on choosing among routes, read how to choose a Manta bridge route. This guide focuses on getting collateral ready for a refinance.

mantabridge.dev is a service for moving assets between Ethereum and Manta Pacific.

  1. Bridge only what you need. Keep enough funds on Ethereum to pay its transaction cost, and leave the required gas token for transactions on Manta Pacific. Costs and settlement times vary by route and network conditions.
  2. Supply the arrived asset. Once it appears in your Manta Pacific wallet, deposit it into the lending market. Bridging alone does not add collateral to your loan.
  3. Review, then refinance. Check the position’s new collateral value and debt before accepting new terms. Compare the new borrowing cost with your current one, including transaction costs.

What should decide your route?

Choose based on the asset the lending market accepts, the amount that should arrive, and the time you can wait. Manta Network’s documentation describes Manta Pacific as an Ethereum Layer 2, a network that runs alongside Ethereum; the bridge and the lending market still perform separate jobs.

Before confirming, check the destination chain, token, and receiving wallet address. The key test is whether the arrived asset can actually be supplied to your intended position.

Bridge the right asset, supply it on Manta Pacific, then refinance against the updated position.
