Quote expiry is the deadline for accepting a swap’s offered rate. If your XMR-to-token swap is pending or failed, expiry may explain why the expected amount changed or the service stopped processing it.

A quote is a time-limited offer based on exchange prices and network conditions. An XMR bridge routes a swap between Monero and another blockchain; the rate can move while the transaction waits. The site is one way to make that kind of swap from your own wallet.

Before expiry, the quote sets an expected amount

The quote usually shows how much of the receiving asset you can expect for your deposit. Its expiry limits how long that amount is protected. The exact rule depends on the service: it may require your deposit to arrive, or only be sent, before the deadline.

For example, suppose a quote offers 0.5 XMR for 0.01 BTC, with a five-minute window. If Bitcoin’s price moves sharply during that time, the service may no longer be able to deliver 0.01 BTC at the original rate. That movement is price risk; the deadline limits how long the quoted amount applies.

In practice, I check the quote’s stated expiry condition before sending. A transaction sent near the deadline may reach the service after it, because blockchains record transactions in blocks rather than instantly. Monero’s documentation describes its roughly two-minute block target; Ethereum’s documentation explains that transactions also wait for network processing.

After expiry, the deposit’s status decides what to do

An expired quote does not by itself prove your funds are lost. First check whether your wallet shows the deposit as sent, then look up its transaction status on the source blockchain. A pending transaction has not yet been recorded in a block; a confirmed one has.

If you have not sent funds, do not use the old quote. Get a fresh quote and check its deadline. If you already sent funds, avoid sending again until you know whether the first deposit was received and what the service’s stated process is for expired deposits.

A late confirmation can change the outcome

If you sent before expiry but the transaction confirmed afterward, the service may handle it differently from a deposit sent after expiry. Some systems may recalculate the amount at the current rate; others may pause or reject the swap. Check the status and terms for your specific quote, because expiry rules are not universal.

Keep the transaction ID, which is the wallet’s reference for tracking a transfer, and compare the deposit time with the quote deadline. If the status remains unclear, wait for the service’s stated next step before retrying. XMR bridge swaps depend on both the offered rate and the timing of blockchain confirmation.

Takeaway: Check the deadline rule and deposit status before deciding whether to retry.
