initという言葉は sysvinit のことを指します。
inittabは /etcに置かれた init の
起動設定ファイルのこと。
古くから使われていたのがSysvinitで、
Sysvinitの代替えとして近年Ubuntuなどで
採用されていたのがUpstartです。
そしてFedora 15やCentOS 7、
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7で
採用されたのがSystemdです。
