$ sudo apt-get update
アップデート時にデータが取得できず失敗する場合、ソースのダウンロード元を変更すると解決できるようです。
[システム] > [システム管理] > [ソフトウェア・ソース]
「Ubuntuのソフトウェア」タブのダウンロード元で "その他" -> "最適なサーバを探す" -> ”サーバの選択”
で変更できます。
サーバーをアメリカ合衆国に変更して、問題なくアップデートできるようになりました。
