はじめに
Upworkなどで海外のクライアントと仕事をしようとすると、技術よりも先に「英語でのやり取り」が壁になることがあります。コードは書けるのに、メッセージ1通に30分かかる。失礼になっていないか不安で、返信が遅れる。結果として「反応が遅い人」と思われてしまう――。
でも、実際にクライアントが求めているのは流暢な英語ではありません。短く、具体的で、誤解のない英語です。ネイティブのような言い回しより、番号付きの箇条書きと、はっきりした日付のほうがずっと信頼されます。
この記事では、私がよく使う場面別の英文テンプレートと、英語に自信がなくても誤解を減らせる書き方のルールをまとめます。テンプレートはそのまま使っても、自分用に直しても構いません。
英文メッセージの5つのルール
テンプレートの前に、全体に共通するルールです。
- 1文1メッセージ。 関係代名詞でつながった長い文は誤解のもとです。短い文を並べましょう。
- 質問には番号を振る。 相手が「1. Yes 2. No」と返しやすくなり、答え漏れも減ります。

日付はタイムゾーン付きで。
by Fridayではなくby Friday 23 Oct, 6 pm (New York time)。曖昧なASAPやsoonは使わない。 - 確認は文章で残す。 通話で決めたことも、最後にメッセージで要約します。
- 翻訳ツールは「逆翻訳」で確認。 日本語→英語に訳したら、その英語をもう一度日本語に戻して、意味がずれていないか見ます。
テンプレート1：仕事を始める前の確認質問
案件の詳細が曖昧なときに、着手前に送るメッセージです。
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the details. Before I start, I have a few questions:
1. Who will provide the text and images for the pages?
2. Do you already have a design (Figma, images), or should I follow your current site?
3. Which pages are included? My understanding is: Home, About, Services, Contact.
4. Is there a fixed launch date?
Once I have your answers, I'll confirm the scope, price, and timeline in writing.

ポイントは3番です。自分の理解を書いて、相手に確認してもらう形にすると、「何ページですか？」と聞くよりずっと早く正確な答えが返ってきます。
テンプレート2：スコープと見積もりの提示
Hi Sarah,
Here is the scope and price based on our call:
Included:
- 4 pages: Home, About, Services, Contact
- Mobile-friendly layout
- Contact form that sends to your email
- 2 rounds of revisions
Not included:
- Writing the text (you will send it)
- Logo design
- Blog

Timeline: 10 working days after I receive the text and images

「Not included」を必ず書くのがコツです。英語で後から「それは範囲外です」と説明するのは、日本語以上に気を遣います。最初に書いておけば、指差すだけで済みます。
テンプレート3：進捗報告（短く定期的に）

「Done / Next / Waiting for you」の3つに分けるだけで、英語の文章力に関係なく伝わります。特に「Waiting for you」は、遅れの原因が自分ではないことを角を立てずに伝えられる便利な欄です。
テンプレート4：遅れそうなときの連絡
遅延の連絡は、気づいた時点で、期限より前に送ります。英語が不安で後回しにするのが一番まずいパターンです。
Hi Sarah,
I need to update the timeline. The contact form integration is taking longer
than I expected because the email service needs extra setup.
New delivery date: Monday 26 Oct (your time), instead of Friday 23 Oct.
Everything else is on track. Sorry for the change, and I'll send you an
update on Saturday.

構成は「何が遅れるか → 理由（1文） → 新しい日付 → 他は順調 → 次の連絡」。言い訳を長く書く必要はありません。Sorry for the change程度の短い謝罪で十分です。
テンプレート5：範囲外の追加依頼への返答
Hi Sarah,
Good idea. Adding a blog is outside the current scope, so I'd handle it as
a separate milestone:
- Blog list page and post page
- Price: $200
- Timeline: 4 working days after the current milestone is approved
Would you like me to add it? The current work is not affected either way.

Noと言わずに、「別のマイルストーンとして可能です」と条件を示すのがポイントです。The current work is not affectedで、今の作業が止まらないことも伝えます。
テンプレート6：納品とレビュー依頼

1. All 4 pages on your phone and laptop
2. The contact form (send a test message)
3. The text and images
If everything looks good, please reply "approved" and I'll submit the
milestone. If you find any issues, list them with the page name and I'll

「何を確認してほしいか」を番号で示し、「OKならapprovedと返信してください」と次のアクションを明確にします。

I'll look into it and reply by ...は特に便利です。すぐに答えられない質問でも、返事の期限を自分で決めて伝えることで、反応の遅さを不安に思われずに済みます。
まとめと次のステップ
英語力に自信がなくても、テンプレートと「短く・番号付き・日付付き」のルールがあれば、海外クライアントとのやり取りは十分回ります。むしろ、きっちりした構造のメッセージは、長い英文より信頼されることも多いです。
