SAPシステム専用の特殊なプログラミング言語。
ABAPはAdvanced Business Application Programingの略称で、SAPシステムの開発に用いられるSAP専用の言語である。
1979年にSAP社が発売したR/2システムで初めて開発言語として開発された。
それ以降、標準機能はもちろんのこと、アドオン機能もABAPで作成されている。
Add-on、バッチプログラム、業務向けレポート等、SAPのビジネス・アプリケーションを追加開発できる。
ABAP言語は、オブジェクト指向型でCOBOL言語に似ていると言われている。
