Let's introduce the usage of YYSystem, which can assist in web meetings between English and Japanese speakers.
Introduction
YYSystem is a cross-platform application (Windows, iPhone, Android) capable of transcribing multiple-person meetings and translating into multiple languages. It is well-balanced in terms of voice recognition accuracy, sentence boundary recognition, and translation precision, particularly made easy to handle in conversations using Japanese and English. Although the free version has some functional limitations, such as the number of usage hours, it is a sufficiently useful application.
Installation
The application can be used from both Windows and smartphones. After installation, you need to create an account, which can be shared across all platforms. Since you will need to create an account or log in after installation, you should have your account information ready.
Account (Corporate Version)
Log in by entering the "Group ID", "Email Address", and "Password". If you don't have an account, create one by clicking the "Create Account" button.
Account (Lite Version)
Log in by entering the "Email Address" and "Password". If you don't have an account, create one by clicking the "Create Account" button.
Windows
Access the website below and select "Windows版(x64)" or "Windows版(x86)" to download.
Double click the downloaded file (YYDesktopCaption_XXXX.msi) and follow the installation wizard. Note that a Windows warning may appear when you double-click, but just proceed with the execution. The installer is displayed in Japanese, so just keep pressing the "Next" button, which is represented as "次へ" in Japanese. "Finish" will be displayed as "閉じる" in Japanese.
When you launch YY Desktop, a login screen as shown below will appear. If you do not have an account, create a new one by clicking "Create account". When creating an account, it is necessary to check "Agree to the terms of use" and "Agree to the privacy policy".
*Note that the service provider is AISIN Co., Ltd., so it can be trusted for the time being.
Setting the Language You Speak and the Language to be Transcribed Alongside
Once you have logged into the YY Desktop application, set your language settings from the gear icon on the left side. Select your spoken language from "Primary Language". Be careful as English is written in Japanese characters as "英語".
Also, set the "Transcribed Language" to the same as your primary language.
After changing the settings, press the "Confirm Settings" button at the bottom right to decide.
How to Start or Join a Meeting
If you want to start a new meeting, begin from the "Start Meeting" button. If there are ongoing meetings, they are displayed in the list below, so press the Join button to participate.
Android
Once the installation is complete, create a Lite version user from the "Create Account" button.
iPhone
Install YYProbe from the QR code or URL below.
Login
Launch YYProbe, enter the Group ID, account, and password, and log in.
Start of the meeting
Start a meeting from the "Hold a new meeting" button. If you want to join a meeting that is already being held, select the meeting from the Meeting List and join. It's convenient to have "Automatic activation of voice recognition" turned ON.
Settings during the meeting
During the meeting, you can change settings via the gear icon in the upper right. You can change the language you speak and the language to be displayed together.
