Scala（Java もかな？）の String#matches は、正規表現が String 全体にマッチしているかを判断する。
"Hello".matches("ll")
// res0: Boolean = false
"Hello".matches(".*ll.*")
// res1: Boolean = true
Ruby ならこんな感じ？
!!("Hello" =~ /^ll$/)
# => false
!!("Hello" =~ /^.*ll.*$/)
# => true
