Context: I just bought a new laptop. A windows laptop - one might say. One who is a simpleton with an oversimplifying, binary view of operating systems. But yes, this came unavoidably with a Windows pre-install - hallmarking the unchallenged influence of the Microsoft lobby. Who would not want Windows, right? The foster child of corporate greed and over-hyped incompetence. Who the fuck would - I would ask.
But let's see, before I erase this piece of shit of an abomination of a spyware software from my laptop, let's give WSL2 a try. The best of both worlds, right? You bet...
After typing "WSL" into the search bar, this disguised error message pops up:
So, after going all the way and even displaying a linux mascot - the system claims it does not know about WSL. Or at least it is not available. Again, UI entries like WSL or WSL Settings are readily available, while the software is not. Retarded much?
Ah, and sure, what I need is "Search with Bing". Not sure how many years are needed for the eggheads in Redmond to realize that people have browsers to search the net, and expect to find things locally with windows search. Not to mention that why offer an application icon when the application is not installed, well..., not even available. So will Bing make it magically available in the Store?
Making a roundtrip of browser search -> MS Store site -> MS Store app -> alais, WSL is available after all. So againg, what the f*ck was this?
Let's have a closer look. Not kidding, the button says "Get".
Well, as some anecdotes claim that Einstein was not so good at simple math problems, similarly the tech giant microsoft cannot figure out how to label a button approriately, with meaning and form. Well, yes, sure the gradient background is amazing, but a flower and a piece of shit together is still just a piece of shit. And being a tech gian means they can keep publishing shit, like Teams, Office 365 or god forbid web outlook and endless line of breaking updates.
Okay, I just click on "Get".
Which finally installs WSL, so that I can install Ubuntu.
And probably this is the perfect time to erase this Windows crazyness from my laptop - to save my sanity.
