SharePoint Update: Personal Pages Retired from SharePoint Start
In May 2024, Microsoft rolled out the new SharePoint Start Experience.
👉 It was designed to make site and page creation easier for everyone.
But soon after launch, Microsoft received feedback ⚠️ about content policy concerns related to Personal Pages (pages not linked to any site).
Because of this, in April 2025, the option to create Personal Pages directly from SharePoint Start was retired.
What Changed?
Until retirement, users could:
Create Personal Pages without linking them to a site.
Now, if you try the same, you’ll see this message:
“Creating new personal pages that are not linked to sites is no longer supported.”
How to Create Pages After the Change
Don’t worry — you can still create pages, but now they must be linked to a SharePoint site.
Step 1: From SharePoint Start, click Go To Pages.
Step 2: Choose how to create your page:
- Way 1: From the Create dropdown → Select Blank Page.
- Way 2: From the Create a Page section → Pick Blank Page or choose a template.
Step 3: Tag the page to one of your existing SharePoint sites, then click Create.

By following this workflow:
-
All new pages will comply with Microsoft’s updated guidelines -
