tsconfig.jsonを書くときはTSConfig Basesを使うと便利

tsconfig.json(TSConfig)を書くときに使うと便利な、TSConfig Basesをご紹介します。

TSConfigのデフォルト値はゆるめ

TSConfigで値を設定していないオプションにはデフォルト値が使われますが、それは必ずしも最適なDX(開発者体験)をもたらすとは限りません。
たとえば、より厳密な型チェックを行なうためのstrictオプションはデフォルトでは無効になっています。
他にも、今日TypeScriptを書く上では有効化すべき機能が無効になっていたり、ターゲットとなるESのバージョンが古かったりと、TSConfigのデフォルト値は全体的にゆるめの設定になっています。

tsc --initで生成されるTSConfigはあと一歩

TSConfigは自分で書くこともできますが、tsc --initによって生成することもできます。

tsc --initによって生成されるTSConfigはデフォルト値に比べて厳しめの設定になってはいるものの、まだ問題を抱えています。
それは、一部のオプションがプロジェクトに最適な設定になっていないことです。
たとえば実行環境としてNode.jsを使う場合、バージョンによってlibtargetに指定すべき値は異なります。1
また、Next.jsやNuxtのようなフレームワークを使うのであれば、そのフレームワークに合った構成にする必要があるでしょう。

TSConfig Basesを使おう

TSConfig Basesは、様々な実行環境に最適化されたTSConfigを公開しているリポジトリです。
各TSConfigはnpmパッケージとして提供されており、プロジェクトに合ったものを選んで使う仕組みになっています。
たとえば、Node.js v16を使っている場合、@tsconfig/node16をインストールします。

npm i -D @tsconfig/node16

そして、TSConfigのextends@tsconfig/node16/tsconfig.jsonを指定します。

こうすることで、Node.js v16に最適化された設定が適用されます。
もちろん、次のようにプロジェクト固有のオプションを追加することもできます。
