It is an alternative to human being exploration to various sites. It is somewhat similar to web harvesting. The only difference is, in web harvesting bots are used to extract informa
tion from various sites. Bots perform task quite fast. There is no such bots in web scraping.
In fact, for web harvesting, efficient web browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer can be used to extract the information. But these are just the alternative and are not widely used. On wider scale, bots are used to extract the information rather than going for the website explorer.
