前々から文字列置換のキーバインド(M-%)が、使用頻度が高いわりには押しづらいと思ってました。
そこで、「Emacsテクニックバイブル」を参考に、C-c rに割り当てることにしました。

; C-c r aka M-%
(global-set-key (kbd "C-c r") 'query-replace)
だいぶ押しやすくなった。
