修正すべきファイルがある場所を探します。
$ python -c "import matplotlib;print(matplotlib.matplotlib_fname())"
/path/to/matplotlibrc
matplotlibrcというファイルのbackendというパラメータを弄ります。
backend : macosx
となっているところを、以下のように書き換えるだけです。
backend : Tkagg
