[Contact Support: 800-864-4162 ]How to resolve error like Transmit failed general failure

Posted at

I was unable to connect to my home network with my Win7 laptop, and when I went to ping, got the following: "PING: transmit failed. General failure." I haven't installed or uninstalled any software since it last worked two days ago. I've followed some of the tips listed in a previous thread: How to resolve transmit failed general failure

I've done the following:

  1. flushed the dns cache

  2. disabled and enabled the device

  3. uninstalled and reinstalled the network driver (from the Device Management tool devmgmt.msc)

  4. uninstalled the software associated with the device (from the uninstall program appwiz.cpl)

  5. restored from a System Restore point prior to the error

The problem persists. Amplifying symptoms are as follows:

I can ping 127.0.0.1, but nothing else. IPCONFIG shows a self-assigned IP of 169.254.x.x

Meda state reads Enabled. IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity read "No network access"

I've tested the cable with fox and hound and it rings good. I see lights on the router port, and Windows starts the IP acquisition process whenever I reset the router or unplug/replug the cable.
