FreeBSD on RaspberryPi 4 Model B 発動篇

    • 4G model, 8G model ともに SD カードイメージを書き込むだけで起動できることを確認しました
    • メモリサイズも正しく認識できていることを確認しました

FreeBSD on RaspberryPi 4 Model B 接触篇 から4カ月、login できるようになり、Ethernet Driver の対応も入りました。
ネットワークが使えるようになったことで、RaspberryPi 4 Model BFreeBSD をそれなりに遊べるようになってきたと思います。

2021/01/03 時点でできること/できないこと

4G model と 8G model で確認しています。

できることと

  • SDカードからの起動
  • Ethernetを使った通信
  • USB ストレージの利用
  • USB Keyboard
    • USB Mouse は未確認
  • pkg install

まだできないこと

  • 無線LAN, Bluetooth の利用

用意するもの

4G model, 8G model 共通で必要になるものです。

作業用PC

xz形式のファイルの展開、SDカードへの書き込み、FAT領域へのアクセスができるPCならなんでも構いません。
以降はFreeBSD がinstallされているPCを前提として書いています

RaspberryPi 4 Model B 一式

  • 本体
  • 電源
  • SDカード
    • 4GiB以上のサイズでClass10対応のもの

シリアルコンソールケーブル

まだ、USB周り対応ができていないようなので、操作はシリアルコンソールを使って行います。

シリアルコンソールとしては、次のようなものがあります。
- USB to TTL 4-pin Wire (1m) [WS-7965]
- Adafruit ADA-954 USBシリアル変換ケーブル for Raspberry Pi USB to TTL Serial Cable - Debug / Console Cable for Raspberry Pi

documentation > usage > gpio をみて、GND, TXD(GPIO14), RXD(GPIO15) を接続します。

シリアルコンソールの設定は 115200 bps になります。

RaspberryPi 4 Model B の rpi-eeprom を更新する

購入時期によっては EEPROM イメージが古い場合があります。
EEPROM イメージのバージョンは、SDカードを差さずに電源を入れると確認できます。

RaspberryPi 4 Model B の EEPROM を 2020/04 版より新しいものにしてください。
2021/01/03 時点では 2020/09/03 が最新のリリース版になります。

古い場合は Downloads の Recovery の記述に従って更新してください。

起動用 SD カードを作成する

RaspberryPI 3 Model B 用イメージのままで RaspberryPi 4 Model B 4G model, 8G model でも動くようになりました。

RaspberryPI 3 Model B 用 SD カードイメージを取得する

2020/12/24 以降のものを取得してください。

SDカードにイメージを書き込む

dd や DD for Windows などを使って取得したイメージをSDカードに書き込みます。

4G model の場合

RaspberryPI 3 Model B 用 SD カードイメージがそのまま利用できるようになりました。
SDカードにイメージを書き込むだけで起動します。

8G model の場合

RaspberryPI 3 Model B 用 SD カードイメージがそのまま利用できるようになりました。
SDカードにイメージを書き込むだけで起動します。

作成したSDカードを差して RaspberryPi 4 Model B を起動する

作成した SD カードを RaspberryPi 4 Model B に差して起動します。

成功した場合、シリアルコンソールに boot message が出力されます。

終わりに

まだまだ使えないデバイスがありますが、SDカードからの起動とネットワークが利用できるようになったため、とりあえず FreeBSD / RaspberryPi 4 Model B で遊べるようになりました。

4G model, 8G model ともに SD カードイメージを書き込むだけで起動することを確認できました。
メモリサイズも正しく認識できていることを確認できました。
