RC直列回路に方形波を与えた場合、出力電圧が定常電圧の90%に達する時間は2.3tau[sec]である。

上の数字の根拠は以下のようだ。

出力電圧はEに対して以下の式で計算される。

V_{out} = E(1 - e^{-t / \tau})

t = 2.3tauとするとEにかかる係数は0.899741となる。

反対に係数を与えてtを計算もできる。

t = 4tauだと0.981684。
